Our Student Council Family
Overview
At the apex of Student Leadership in JWSS, our Student Councillors (SCs) represent the student population and serve as the vital link between the students and the school management. It seeks to improve student welfare and school experience, as well as influence school culture positively and reach out to external partners such as our Parent Support Group, the Alumni and the community. Through the various initiatives and programmes, the Student Council aim to grow innovative leaders, who exercise moral courage and thought leadership.
Vision

The key-shaped competencies that all students of JWSS, especially the Student Councillors, will be developed in.
Leadership Training
Student Councillors will receive training in the Leadership Challenge (Kouzes and Posner) 5 practices and 10 commitments, namely:
· Model the Way
· Encourage the Heart
· Challenge the Process
· Enabling Others to Act
· Inspire a Shared Vision
In addition, Student Councillors receive specialized training in the following areas (non-exhaustive):
· Critical thinking skills: Proposal planning
· Communication skills: Public Speaking, Active Listening
· Collaboration skills: Facilitation, Stakeholder Engagement
· Digital and Information Skill: Presentation Slides, Videography, Use of Generative AI
Leadership Platforms
Student Councillors are involved in the planning of school projects and have platforms all year round to practise their leadership. Such platforms include:
· Teachers’ Day
· JWSS Busking
· Student Leaders’ Investiture
· Morning Assembly Quote of the Day
Through these platforms, Student Councillors are given the opportunity to plan proposals, engage with the school and school management, so that they can make a positive difference to their peers, the school and the community.

Other Details
Student Council meetings typically meet on Tuesdays from 3.40pm to 5.30pm.
