Art Club

In line with the theme of “We Love SG” for Gek Poh Ville Community Centre, the Art Club students were involved in a collaborative painting project with photography artist, Billy Soh, and the residents of Gek Poh. This SG50 Light Art Painting project allowed students to express their love towards the nation by making clever use of various light sources to form figurative images.  The facades of more than 100 Housing and Development Board (HDB) blocks were transformed with these works of art to mark the nation’s 50th year of independence. A total of 105 HDB blocks across the island will display 165 large-format visual arts pieces, co-created by residents and facilitated by visual artists. The art pieces will be on display before, during and beyond the National Day period.

Mr Ang Hak Seng, Chief Executive Director of the People’s Association, said this year’s festival will be “larger and better”. "Last year, we experimented with facade arts and it was very well received by residents, so this year we decided to make it a centrepiece. This art is not only about expression, it's about our hope and future and the process of bringing Singaporeans together – regardless of race, language, religion. This is a journey that will celebrate who we are," he said.
