APPROACH

A&A Symbol.v2.jpg

The ampersand is one of the most flexible symbols in our alphabet. By selecting it to embody the Arts & Aesthetic approach in JWSS, the symbol promotes the unified learning culture of arts elements within the school. It seeks to encourage the school community to engage in an extensive range of arts interpretation and aesthetics freedom.

21 February 2018: Arts Conversation 1 @ The Book Room

5.jpg
We conducted our first Arts Conversation @ The Book Room earlier this year on 21st February 2018. We had the privilege of inviting Mr Frederick and Mr Prithivi, who are members of the NUS DJ Club – NUS SYNQ.

The objectives of the Arts Conversation are to:
  1. Introduce the art of DJ-ing through slide presentations and entertaining live demonstrations
  2. Expose students to DJ-ing skills and techniques
  3. Raise awareness with regards to the DJ industry in Singapore as well as the challenges that Singaporean DJs face.

A total of 30 students participated in the Arts Conversation. Some students tried their hands at one of the DJ skills, facilitated by the trainers from NUS. The students had an enriching experience and gained many useful insights on DJing skills, as well as knowledge about the industry.

9 March 2018: Open Mic Competition

Open_Mic.jpg
The Open Mic 2018 was met with overwhelming responses from the students this year and it was very encouraging to observe the enthusiasm and fervour of our JWSS students in showcasing their talents. Noticeably, some contestants who did not make it to the Finals last year had demonstrated resilience and the spirit of “Entrepreneurial Dare” by joining the competition again. Many students and teachers would agree that this year’s Open Mic Finals was certainly one of the best shows in JWSS!

In the Open Mic 2018, we exposed our students to Augmented Reality where the students could scan some photos to know more about the finalists.

The silhouettes of the finalists were placed on the notice board to allure audience to find out the identities of the finalists (as shown in the figures below).
